Avesta 253MA, use is primarily designed for welding the high temperature stainless steel  253d for furnaces, combustion chambers and burners. Both the steel and filler metal offers excellent resistance to oxidation up to 1100°C.

The chemical composition of Avesta 253MA is balanced to give a crack resistant weld metal. The steel often forms a rather thick oxide in welding or hot rolling and oxidized plates and welds must be brushed or ground clean before welding.

The resistance of a cloth to high-temperature corrosion is in lots of circumstances depending on its ability to form a protective oxide layer. In a reducing environment, when such a layer can’t be created , the corrosion resistance of the material will be determined by its alloy content. Although not designed for aqueous corrosion resistance the excessive chromium and nitrogen contents give the grade a pitting resistance approximating that of 316.

It is beneficial that the material be solution treated after 10-20% cold work to achieve maximum creep energy in service. 253MA will turn out to be sensitised within the temperature range of °C; this is not a problem for top temperature purposes, but will end in decreased aqueous corrosion resistance. 253MA has excessive power at elevated temperatures so is usually used for structural and stress-containing functions at temperatures above about 500°C and up to about 900°C. Its power at these temperatures is larger than that of options such as Grade 310. Carburisation – Under oxidising circumstances this grade can perform nicely, but alloys with larger nickel content material are most popular if the ambiance is decreasing.
